TEST OF LEGAL ENGLISH SKILLS EXAMINATIONS
Cambridge Law Studio is an accredited TOLES examinations centre and without doubt, the TOLES series of legal English examinations are excellent preparation for the practical skills needed by international lawyers. We use TOLES exercises as part of our teaching programme and encourage all participants on our courses to take one of the exams as a conclusion to their studies. Most of our students take the TOLES Advanced exam.
The 3 levels of exams concentrate on the same skills, progressively using them at more in-depth levels. The Foundation exam and Higher exams are advisable for those students who are continuing to build their general English skills. Your trainer will discuss your options with you fully before you choose your exam preference. The Foundation and Higher exams are available on fixed dates only. Students of Cambridge Law Studio have consistently achieved above average grades for TOLES and we aim to build on our success in 2008. There is no extra charge to your course fees for entrance to the TOLES exams.
What are the TOLES examinations?
TOLES means Test of Legal English Skills.
The tests allow lawyers and law students to prove their ability to cope with everyday, practical tasks in English when working in a legal office or studying in the law faculty of a UK or US University. For this reason, they are very practical in nature and are tests of knowledge of up-to-date legal English. They are not exams in English or American law. The language and terminology tested by TOLES reflect international commercial transactions in today's global market.
What skills are tested by TOLES?
Knowledge and use of specific legal vocabulary relevant in the global commercial market:
 |
Formal letter writing and communicating by email |
 |
Drafting techniques |
 |
Reading complex documentation |
 |
The language of negotiating |
 |
